APPROVAL OF CANPASS SITES - GULF ISLANDS
From: Barry Mckee
Date: Tuesday, May 28, 2002

I am pleased to announce that as a result of consultations with the
Committee for Improving CANPASS for Boaters and other groups and
individuals, Canada Customs will be approving two (2) "CANPASS
Members ONLY" clearance sites in the Gulf Islands. Effective
June 1st, 2002, the approved sites are:
     * Horton's Bay (south end of Mayne Island)
     * Miner's Bay (north end of Mayne Island).

Hours of service for both locations will be 7 days per week,
0800 to 2000 (8:00am to 8:00pm).

I would like to request that you use your resources to "get the
word out" to as many boaters as possible. Information on CANPASS
for Boaters is available on our website at:
http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/customs/individuals/canpass/canpassprivateboat-e.html.
The website will not have the updated site information, but will
have other valuable information for members.

Please pass along my thanks to the Committee for bringing this
issue to my attention and for their input. Although I understand
that from your perpestive you may wish this issue did not surface,
I feel that we have dealt with the matter in a responsive fashion
and have ultimately achieved a balance in delivering our program
and considering the needs of the boating community. This balance
is not achieved independently by one side of the other, rather it
is through combined efforts, meaningful consultation, sincere
dialogue and input that ultimately result in success. I have
very much enjoyed dealing with the committee. I wish you all
"safe boating".

Sincerely,

Barry McKee
