HEATER INSTALLATION

The heater is a Webasto Thermo Top C unit, 17,200 Btu/hr, with two heaters. One is located under the sink with a single outlet, the other is located under the starboard settee which has two ducts, one to head the other to the front of the main cabin. The heater hoses run under the floor board which gives a little radiant heat to the cabin and is nice on the feet first thing in the morning. The heater is only used for heat not to pre-heat the engine or for domestic hot water. The battery draw by the heater is not too bad but was taxing the old single 12volt house battery. This is why I switched to 2X6Volt golf cart batteries this past spring for the house battery. I also added a Nova Cool refrigeration unit to the ice box two weeks ago which also would have made a need to increase Amp hour capacity to my batteries.

BATTERY REPLACEMENT

Before 2X12 Volt ~ 90 Amp hrs per battery
After 1X12 Volt starting and 2X6Volt House ~220 Amp hrs
The charger is a Statpower Truecharge 20 plus
The battery monitor works well and is a Heart Link 20
The effort to install the system was worth it, I can run fridge and heater for 2 full days without starting engine to recharge batteries. I had to relocate the cabin bilge pump to find room for the battery box. The only thing left to clean up is to run long wires on some services so they will go around the new battery box rather than over the top.
