Hello, To seal wood without build up I use clear penetrating epoxy sealer. Available at hardware, paint and marine stores. Soaks into porous wood and seals it permanently. Can then coat with epoxy or any other finish as desired or not. Will make rotted wood solid, etc. Fabulous stuff.
