WRITE A NOTE TO YOURSELF OF ALL THINGS LOOSENED OR COVERED IN THE FALL
SO YOU CAN TIGHTEN OR UNCOVER IN THE SPRING.


LEAVE THE NOTE IN A CONSPICUOUS PLACE ON THE BOAT.

Inside:

____ ____ Vacuum or clean all surfaces

____ ____ Remove or prop up cushions

____ ____ Prop open all doors and drawers

____ ____ Remove VHF Radio

____ ____ Remove Loran/GPS

____ ____ Remove Autopilot

____ ____ Spray electric terminals with WD-40.

____ ____ Remove Speedo thru-hull

____ ____ Clean and winterize bilge (Pump antifreeze through bilge pump. Dry out remaining water in bilge. Leave bilge dry)

____ ____ Remove battery from clock

Freshwater System:

____ ____ Drain water tanks and flush with anti-freeze

____ ____ Drain hot water tank and flush with anti-freeze

____ ____ Pump anti-freeze through cold water system (Run water through all faucets until anti-freeze runs through)

____ ____ Pump anti-freeze through hot system (Run water through all faucets until anti-freeze runs through)

____ ____ Pour anti-freeze through all sink drains and cooler drain.

____ ____ Pour anti-freeze through all cockpit drains.

Head:

____ ____ Flush holding tank thoroughly

____ ____ Pour antifreeze through head into tank.

____ ____ Condition toilet pump.

____ ____ Pump antifreeze through shower pump and drain.

____ ____ Wash out vented loops.

Engine:

____ ____ Top off fuel tank.

____ ____ Add stabilizer to fuel.

____ ____ Drain and replace engine oil and filter

____ ____ Replace transmission fluid.

____ ____ Clean water filter.

____ ____ Winterize external cooling system.

____ ____ Check internal cooling system for adequate temperature protection.

____ ____ Replace fuel filters.

____ ____ Run engine for a few minutes to run stabilized gas into engine.

____ ____ Open cylinder and exhaust manifold drain cocks.

____ ____ Loosen belts.

____ ____ Drain water pump.

____ ____ Remove impeller (Grease lightly and replace)

____ ____ Cover air inlet (Stuff with oil soaked rag)

____ ____ Tape exhaust outlet.

____ ____ Wipe down engine and vacuum engine compartment.

____ ____ Remove batteries.

____ ____ Check antifreeze in closed system for adequate temperature protection.

____ ____ Remove the inner wires of all engine control cables from their outer sheaths. Inspect sheathing.

____ ____ Inspect all hoses for signs of softening.

Outside:

____ ____ Clean deck and hull.

____ ____ Wax hull

____ ____ Remove life lines

____ ____ Remove blocks from mast collar

____ ____ Clean and wax stainless.

____ ____ Revarnish teak.

____ ____ Remove masthead instruments.

____ ____ Remove compass.

____ ____ Grease steering cables.

____ ____ Stuff a rag and tape over all throughhulls.

____ ____ Leave all drainage seacocks open.

____ ____ Cover boat.

Propeller and Shaft:

____ ____ Check for cutlass bearing wear.

____ ____ Check propeller blade for misalignment.

____ ____ Inspect stainless steel shaft for crevice corrosion.

Valves and Winches:

____ ____ Disassemble and regrease all winches.

____ ____ Disassemble all seacock plugs and regrease. (Check for scoring and leakage.)
