Owner's Review for the 1967 C&C Redwing 30
Older design, narrow beam, large overhangs, low freeboard, low aspect rig, large boom, hull is solid thick fiberglass, deck is either plywood cored or balsa and if care was not taken when drilling holes for deck hardware then water will seep into the core and deck problems arise. Its strength are: very stiff (3500 lbs of lead, handles very well in bad weather. Fast boat, even upwind, when winds are at 12 knts. and below. Have been in 30+ knots of wind and the boat is fine (I wasn't). Good set of winches. Large cockpit. It was able to claw of a lee shore in a narrow bay , almost like a fjord, with just the genoa partially unfurled. If a boat must have one quality is is the ability to claw of a lee shore under sail. Weaknesses are: need to reef the main early (12 to 15 knots) and often. Tracks very badly when going downwind due to the overhangs and scimitar shaped rudder. Not a lot of storage space, small hanging locker. Sleeps five but max. of 3 persons for cruising. I take my boat into the North
Chanel every year and am well satisfied.
